New Medium is a mod designed to completely overhaul the game on an almost fundamental level and to bring quality of life to nearly every aspect of the game. Weapons, enemies, and even bosses were reworked almost entirely (and in some cases, from the ground up) to repave the streets of Twilight Town.

This is a silly little mod I've made for a silly little game and I do not presume to be owed anything for my time and effort.

What's different?

Weapons:
All of the guns have been remade entirely from scratch with the purpose of rebalancing them and enhancing their feedback.
The shotgun will smear enemies all over the wall, the Garand has a working, usable, Sei-shaped scope, and even the knife's a real weapon now!

Enemies:
The less than friendly denizens of NIGHTFALL-04 have been given a few improvements, ranging from animation fixes to buffing their attacks and introducing new behaviors -- and, as of the newest version, new enemies entirely; the Enforcer, the Prototype, the Banger, and more. Each with unique attacks and abilities to fill in each other's weaknesses, and to uncover yours.

Bosses:
nd Each and every boss has been redesigned to be more engaging, more challenging, and ultimately more fun. The Biker Boss, as he claims, will actually try to run you the ♥♥♥♥ over. The Yakuza Leader is keen on showing you how fast he really is -- and the Maid Boss is finally shootable!

Duo Protagonists:
The differences between Ikuro and Girl have been emphasized by how they handle their weapons; with his bigger frame and normal sensibility, Ikuro handles his weapons steadily, albeit slowly -- slower than the Girl, who despite having a harder time with recoil and kickback, reloads much faster and thus has a far easier time keeping the bullets coming, even if they're all over the place.

Quality of Life and Bugfixes:
A large number of vanilla bugs have been fixed -- largely by virtue of having been replaced by other aspects of the mod. Additionally, many aspects of the game have been livened up with extra visual effects, enhanced sound effects, and little bits of polish here and there; such as weapon-specific bullet casings, enemy-created bullet holes, extra sounds where there were originally none, and so much more that I can't even try to remember.

Rebalancing:
Gone are the days of one-shotting bosses by stopping time and holding down M1, as well as the pinpoint accurate MP5. Bosses will need to be fought, and with the nerfs to Twilight Mode, it will now have to be managed more carefully, as activating it carries a cost. Ikuro and the Girl are, by no means, pushovers -- but you'll need to be careful if you want to survive.

By this point, New Medium has more than likely spent over a year being developed. I don't know, I haven't been keeping track. Twilight Town is an odd little thing that has intrigued me just as much as it has bewildered and frustrated me, but I'm glad it inspired me to make this mod, and I hope you have as much fun with it.

This is a really good effort to polish up the normal mode of the game, the bosses actually making me strategize was crazy. I think it removes a lot of charm and feedback by how much more conservative it is with gore on robotic enemies as they mostly spark on being shot but I got used to it. The game is still pretty fast paced and keeping that at its core is achieved well, I liked this take on it though I wouldn't replace the game overall with it.

@Laz none of the enemies drop shotguns in the normal game though; not even the shotgun-wielding pretty boys, so I'm a little confused, sorry!

hey, in the normal game you get a shotgun in the first level when you kill an enemy holding that weapon, but with this mod it only drops ammo, is there a way to unlock the shotgun?

This feels like the way the game was meant to be played. Thank you lots! I've been so invested that I've replayed the game too many times to count!

When I played through the base game I felt like I went through a short funny experience. After installing your overhaul this feels like a pretty cool, satisfying and competent little game that takes just around an hour to beat and I cant keep myself from coming back to improve on the levels and just keep enjoying the satisfying gameplay and sounds from the guns and enemies.

The only thing I would like from this mod was to be able to parry instantly regardless of you being firing or undergoing a reload animation. Often enemies are firing at me and I would like to use the parry defenssively just to push proyectiles back, but doing so requires me to stop firing at then, so usually its better to just dodge.

We never expected *that* sort of praise from a mod like this. Thank you!

Sound design has always been a focus in our mods, and is one of the more fun parts of making stuff like this, so we're glad it's appreciated!

The extra voice lines were in the original game at launch, but were cut for being repetitive, I think? When I restored them, I tried to strike a balance by making them only play sometimes so they wouldn't get too annoying.

I actually didn't touch the movement at all! But maybe changing the weapon bob animation makes movement feel different? I was actually worried that I'd accidentally create more motion sickness, so it's a relief that we did the opposite. I'll keep that in mind for potential future projects...

I don't think I could handle my name being on an altar, so I'm fine with just being in the credits!

I can't even put my excitement into words. You are an absolute savior! Thank you so much for this mod!
I absolutely love how this totally overhauls the game, I love how you can now attack with the knife, and..just.. Agh! So many things to appreciate!
I love new sound designs! - I love how powerful the weapons sound now, And the extra voice lines! They're so nice! The game no longer feels repetitive..

I don't know if this is just placebo-effect, but the movement feels less..bouncy? I don't get nauseous from playing the game anymore - and another thing, your overhaul made the bosses so many times more fun and challenging!

Thank you! One of the goals of the mod from the very beginning was to make things feel less busted and more fun, so we're glad to hear we've succeeded in those regards!

Since the bosses can't be insta-killed by Twilight Mode anymore, DOORDemon edited most of their maps to include extra ammo. He might've messed with some of the other items too, but nothing felt wrong when I tested them. If you need health at the start of a level and there's no medikit, picking the other character restores you to full health. (Which actually is a feature of the base game!)

I also really like that the knife swing is both the attack and deflect and also the reworks to the difficulty system of Hard and OS Mode, at least from what I read, since I haven't actually played them yet. Looking forward to playing them and hopefully improving at the game some more. Epic mod and I hope it gets at least as many subscribers and downloads as the skuyuk title screen mod, so much work must've gone into this.
