In recent times, rail-bound car transportation has undergone a significant change due to increased just-in-time production in the automotive industry. The variety of supplier parts to be transported required new logistical solutions, which were implemented using sophisticated logistics chains and specialized wagons. Large sliding wall wagons with lockable options have become the standard. These enable efficient loading with forklift trucks or cranes and offer versatile usability, especially for the automotive industry. These high-capacity trolleys can transport a variety of goods, from pallets to complete body shells. To protect new cars from vandalism, covered freight wagons were also used from the beginning of the 1990s for pure car transportation.
