If you want to challenge the player, do it via enemy encounters or anything that is actually based around the reason people buy and play FPS games in the first place.
Platforming is always a snoozefest. Its a chore. There is nothing exciting about platforming in a shooter.
"Wow, you can move to the very edge of the platform and press the jump key!! That's so much skill!! I can't believe these filthy kids don't appreciate the skill expression!!"
I'd find more mental stimulation in doing trivial house chores than playing through a platforming section within a shooter.
