It saves weight and complexity. Ideally the pilot would dodge incoming fire and make use of the very small frontal cross section. Admittedly though we have lost a few fighters due to the occasional lucky assault turret shot directly on the tank.

Listen you really cool designer, but are you sure that it is good idea to have big hydro tank? I think better have a lot small than one big because explosion of big kill this ship for sure
