Cryodrakon HAWP

The Cryodrakon is the result of a familiar problem to engineers throughout modern history - how to handle a project that, while cutting edge when conceived, is outdated by the time production rolls around. Originally developed early in the Second Great War as a low altitude tactical bomber, the advent of jet engines and projectile guidance rendered it obsolete before it was even completed, and engineers had to scramble to find ways to change direction and refit the new technologies into the design. As luck would have it, a few niches were found, ranging from medical transport to torpedo bombing, but the most successful of these niches turned out to be close air support and tankbusting. The defensive spinal turret was armored with cast steel and massively upgunned with the addition of a belt-fed autoloading tank cannon, and the external bomb bays under the wings, originally built to carpet an area in anti-infantry minelets or bomblets, were replaced with rear-firing ATGM launchers, an odd but effective configuration. While the plane was never as sophisticated as other purpose-built close air support aircraft, the reliability, cheap operating costs, and hitting power made it a favorite, and it became a workhorse of the Coalition armed forces. Its trademark choppy roar, the sound of the propellers and the jet engines mingling together, is usually met with cheers from the Coalition grunts it winds up supporting in combat, as they are well aware of the firepower a fully loaded Cryodrakon brings to the battlefield, and unless enemy flak gets to it first, the incoming plane is likely to outright destroy any tanks bold enough to try to advance while it loiters nearby.
