Radiant Drone

描述
Description

Meet the Radiant, a small grid attack drone. Armored where necessary, yet kept as minimalistic as possible. Programmed with various subroutines to make sure it survives encounters with the enemy. Made with deep space in mind.

General characteristics
  • Mass: 40.000 kg's.
  • Size in small blocks: 21,5 long, 15 wide, 4,5 high.

Propulsion
  • Various hydrogen thrusters, forward and backwards amounting to 400 kn of thrust in either direction.

Power and fuel
  • 3 small batteries
  • 12 small hydrogen tanks, 4 of which being reserves for the return trip.

Armaments
  • 2 centrally mounted Assault Cannons, with range up to 1.4 km's. By standard set to around 900 meters.

Cargo and ammo capacity
  • 5 small cargo containers, 2 conveyor sorters, total capacity 30 rounds

Other modules
  • 1 Projector for auto repair. This drone is best paired with a welding assembly through which it flies through for repairs after combat.
  • 1 antenna.

Systems
  • Damage protection will enable at certain preset block damage limits. The drone will automatically return to base when this occurs.
  • Close in mode: when ammo is low the Radiant will change its attack mode and go for a few closer passes, before it returns to base.
  • Ammo expended: the Radiant will return to base.
  • Main fuel tanks empty: the Radiant will return to base.

How to set up the Radiant
  • The Radiant needs minimal input from users. You need to attach a rover cockpit to the back.
  • Next, turn off the connector and Event Controllers 7, 8 and 9. Turn off AI behavior on flight.
  • Find the AI Recorder. Delete all waypoints that may be in there. Hotkey 'Add Waypoint' to the rover cockpit.
  • Manoevre beneath the base connector you want to connect your drone to. Note: this can also be a moving grid, provided you add a Beacon beneath in the settings.
  • Make five waypoints. One direct at the connector, 1 beneath it, then 3 further away. Make sure the last one is at least 5 large blocks away from any hangar opening.
  • Add the following settings on waypoints 1 through 5 via 'Setup action':
    1) Access Door Open / Closed.
    2) Radiant Docking Lights - toggle On / Off
    3) Parking Light - toggle On
    4) Main Program 3 startup - Start
    5) Docking Thrusters - Trigger now
  • Move the ship back to the connector. Lock the connector. Activate Event Handler 9 (set to "On"), activate AI flight. Deactivate ALL thrusters, set all hydrogen tanks to Stockpile.
  • The drone is set up. Disconnecting it will result in an automatic launch. Note that the drone won't do anything if there are no enemies in range. In that case it will return after a few minutes, or if the tanks run empty.

How should I use this drone?
  • Best method is to use it on a larger grid with a AI Defense block on it. The moment the Defense block turns on, you can let it release all drones by unlocking all drone connectors. If the drone returns and connects, you could add an event controller in the hangar / docking site where the drone connects, letting it start a timer block that runs for say 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, the connector will release, and the drone will launch again!
  • A hangar with an opening that is 5 blocks wide and 2 blocks tall is enough to house this drone. Line it with welders on the top and bottom of the entrance so the drone gets fully repaired upon return! Make sure to run it straight down the middle when setting up the waypoints.
