The first serial machines arrived at the 184th Guards Poltava-Berlin Red Banner VBAP, based in Pryluky, Chernihiv Region, on April 25, 1987. It was a group of two Tu-160s. One of the aircraft belonged to the experimental second series, and the second was the main one in the military series. In 1991, there was a group of 19 Tu-160 aircraft at the Pryluky air base in the Ukrainian SSR. After the collapse of the USSR, the aircraft were transferred to the Air Force of Ukraine. However, strategic aviation did not correspond to the military doctrine of Ukraine, and therefore in 1999, 8 Tu-160 aircraft were given to the Russians "for gas". Another 9 aircraft were disposed of, one Tu-160 aircraft remained in the city of Poltava in the Museum of Long-Range Aviation.
