New Fighter Icon Series - Japan

Tired of creating your brand new Zero variant only to have to use that same old default icon? Well, not anymore! This mod adds 11 new light fighter icons for Japan: the Zero (including the A7M Reppu!), Ki-43 'Oscar', Ki-61 'Tony' and Ki-84 'Frank'. I also added a basic carrier CAS variant which the game does not include.

It has always bothered me that I have to use the same exact icon whenever I create a new variant of my aircraft. This is especially true for fighter aircraft since they are the most likely to get modified with new tech to stay ahead of opponents. I have been wanting to do this for a long time, and I finally got around to doing it. I uploaded it so everyone can enjoy!

I also added the heavy fighter aircraft icons to the pool of light aircraft icons available for the player.

* DEFAULT ICONS - Japan now has proper default icons for most all of the aircraft. No more Inter War icons for Advanced Fighter!

Compatibility

This mod should be compatible with most any mod.

* 'New Fighter Icon Series' mods will now work concurrently with one another (e.g. enabling Germany and Japan at the same time).

Thanks to the awesome advice of Ben_D, I was able to increase the compatibility of this mod, not only with other mods in the series, but it should be compatible with most other mods as well!

*This mod requires the By Blood Alone DLC


Future Plans

My goal is to eventually make a set for all of the major nations. I may be open to requests for specific planes (fighter planes only). Please note this is just a hobby for me, and I do this out of fun and leisure time (i.e. please do not harass me to get your request done ASAP).

I imagine so. I haven't looked at that mod, but the old Lamp's Equipment Icons did . . . but only single icons for each model instead of multiple icons for the same plane.

I find pictures on the internet and modify them for use in the game.

Hello Lietuvis,

I'm going to assume you know how to start a mod (using Paradox launcher to add basic mod folders). You can then go to Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\394360\3036422313 to view the contents of this mod. This will show you how to set up the folder structure in your mod folder.

Reviewing the contents of this mod, you will find the correct files to modify. There aren't many. It's quite basic. You have a text file that tells the game what icon NAMES to use for planes, a file that tells the game what DDS icon files to associate WITH those names, and you have a folder that contains the icons themselves.

That's pretty much it! If you run into trouble, the game is VERY picky about exact syntax and exact spellings (including CAPS or lower case in some instances), so be sure all your spelling and syntax are correct. Furthermore, you MUST be sure to have the correct number of open and closed brackets where appropriate.

Hi, Colonel O'Neil. I wanted to ask you one simple question: How to add those icons? I tried but they didn't show up. I will be very grateful if you tell me this little secret, or at least give me a link to a tutorial video, if tutorials about adding icons even exist

Manchukuo now has the same icons as Japan.
