Bane

Bane is a helicopter that has been modified with the twin-turbofan engines and fixed forward rotary cannon of a ground attack aircraft, two features which allow it to perform unique role of an air defense gunship capable of achieving speeds comparable to planes while still being able to strafe, hover and turn in place.

In place of the twin-turboshaft engines generally seen on helicopters Bane uses its twin-turbofans to drive the rotor system while also providing additional forward thrust allowing it to run down any non-hybrid helicopters. The turbofans are also capable of differential steering, eliminating the need for a tail rotor. Bane furthermore uses a similar system to some VTOL jets that divert thrust from the jet engines to ports for lift and reaction control, but instead diverts exhaust to forward facing thrusters allowing it to fly in reverse both level and at significantly higher speeds than other helicopters. The turbofans also feature backward auxiliary air intakes to prevent the turbofans from flaming out while flying in reverse.
