This is an endless map encompassing the basic scheme of the New Jersey Transit system as well as the Amtrak NE corridor route north of Trenton and on to Penn Station in Manhattan. NYC Penn Station is also fed by Hudson Yards, and it is from there and Hoboken Yards (feeding Hoboken Station), that the NJT trains head out to the commuter areas.

There is barely enough starting cash to complete the infrastructure to start IC (Amtrak) service between NYC and Trenton. A smarter move might be to begin freight ops on the line from upstate New York (T/F Hudson Valley), fleshing out the freight yards around Newark, Elizabeth City and Bayonne. Then use the cash flow and red ticket punches to build a robust enough IC and Commuter network to get both high speed IC trains and lower speed commuter trains working efficiently between NYC Penn and Metro Park Stations. But other options work too.

Just below the main IC line to Trenton is the skeleton of a freight system connecting the south of the state with the yards of the northern urban areas. It will take a lot of cash to build that. I left a gap in the wall southwest of Newark Liberty station to allow combined freight and transit ops on that line with an out for the freights to get over towards Port Newark and the other freight stations. The intent would be to use this earlier in the game but then have isolated freight and transit lines when feasible.

Each of the end stations of the commuter lines generates commuter trains but you'll have to build all the way to the end to spark generation from them or NYC Penn or Hoboken Station. You are not prohibited from creating connector lines between NYC Penn and Hoboken but in reality, they are not directly linked by NJT commuter trains. Connections are made along the other lines, especially at Secaucus Junction, Newark Penn Station, and Newark Broad Street Station.
