Class 124

描述
The BR class 124 in BR green with panel

several characteristics of these sets make them amongst the most unique of the first gen DMUs. They were the longest first gen DMU, being the only example to exceed 4 coaches and as a result, they were also the most powerful with 8 Leyland Albion 230 HP engines providing a total of 1840 HP - which they would need to negotiate the steep gradients of the pennine routes they operated. Additionally these were the only first gen DMUs to include intermediate motor vehicles without driving cabs, with the first, second, fifth and sixth coaches incorporating engines

Based on the earlier class 126, only 8 of these units were built and they were introduced in 1960 to provide an express transpennine service across the Huddersfield line via the Standedge and Morley tunnels. Unfortunately, being a class of only 8, it was inevitable that they would be up for early withdrawals as non-standard. In 1977 they were merged with the similar class 123s which they operated with as hybrids until full withdrawal of both classes in 1984. After withdrawal, 9 of the extant sets were reduced to 2 coaches (123 at one end and 124 at the other) and kept on standby should the introduction of the pacers not go to plan but they were never used, none of either class were preserved

A few issues to note, the most obvious being the lack of wrap-around cab windows as these are not possible in game yet, ive done my best to replicate them with what we currently have. One of the doors on the MBS has a bar across it, this is part of the adjacent compartment model and therefore cant be removed. The AWS horn starts active when doing a rolling start and ive no idea how to stop it, as a result ive disable the AWS's ability to apply the emergency brake as you would receive an immediate emergency brake application upon starting from a portal otherwise. The AWS still sounds correctly at signals, it just wont do an emergency brake application if you fail to clear it

It would be so great if The Trans Pennine route via Chat Moss Line would be great to try out The Class 124, on which they ran on, until it was transferred to Sheffield route via Edale in early 1979.

I used to ride the Class 124 between St Helens, Junction & Manchester, Victoria, until spring of 1979, when they were taken over by the Class 47's & of course The Deltics.
