Yes you can safely add mid game.
But before you remove mid game make sure any wars you contributed ARRC troops to are complete so the troops disappear, otherwise you will get invalid/unknown maa errors.
I don't want them to last years, they are intended to support defensive wars.
The fact they can be used in any war while the war they are supporting is active is just a side effect of how ck3 works.
The mod can only provide troops to ruler's wars where they are the primary defender, i.e. wars where they have been attacked.
The mod does not care if you have been summoned to the war or not, however it uses the vanilla war interface which does sometimes exclude war selections where you have been previously been summoned to and there is nothing I can do about that because the war selector is inside the game engine.
It is possible to still add troops to a war you have been summoned to but to do that in ARRC would require a rewrite of the mod which I do not intend to do.
I have discovered a bug.
I was summoned to join a war, but I refused. Then I tried to use the interaction to assign troops to AI ally armies, but it was not possible, as it showed that I had already been summoned to join the war.
Another issue is that the AI allies are quite inept. After I joined the war, I was still able to assign troops to AI ally armies to prevent them from losing. One reason for this is that the player is engaged in many wars simultaneously and cannot manage them all.
