Cossack hat "Papakha"

Papakha is a male fur (made of sheepskin or astrakhan) headdress, common among many peoples and nationalities in the world, an element of military uniforms.

According to the Great Soviet Encyclopedia, the word has a Turkic etymology. The shape and height of the papakha is diverse: cylindrical, hemispherical, with a flat bottom and others. The Russian papakha is a high (less often low) cylindrical fur hat with a cloth bottom or along cap, also called a hood.

This headdress is common among the Don and Kuban Cossacks , as well as the peoples of the Caucasus .
