Bozcaada Intervention | Stealth Mission [SP]

Tension in the Mediterranean region is reaching a melting point. NATO decides to intervene, and sends an undercover CTRG operative to assasinate a key military figure on Bozcaada island in Turkey, in an effort to stop the looming conflict.

After two decades of economical problems and regional instability caused by rising tension between NATO and CSAT blocks, the political situation in Turkey is reaching a breaking point.

Turkish politicians are sharply divided in the question of NATO alliance. The rulling party wants to remain in NATO, and break away from the eastern influence. But the nationalist opposition supported by higher military ranks is heavily inclined towards the CSAT's viewpoints, and by the prospect of satisfying territorial claims in the Mediterranean sea. As such, Turkey has been unofficially given a status of a former NATO member, and is no longer being invited to important meetings.

A large group of Turkish soldiers defected and started to operate independetly of their government, although staying loyal to the military leadership. The militia established their base on the island of Bozcaada 4 miles from the mainland. The governement ordered the army to neutralize the situation, but they were turned down. The army representatives argued that it would cause too many civilian casaulties on the island.

The CSAT, which has its fleet located in the naval base in Syria, saw this as an opportunity and started to supply the militia with weapons. In response, NATO stationed few ships near the island, effectively blocking the supply routes. Turkish opposition refused the involvement of NATO, stating that it is an internal affair.

The intelligence reports suggest that Bozcaada militia got their hands on short range cruise missiles, threatening Greek islands and their military installations.
