Before the cataclysmic Seven Hour War, Commander Djuro J. Remus served as a military ambassador liaising with Black Mesa and Aperture Science. His frequent visits to Aperture’s laboratories were not just professional courtesy but a chance to reconnect with his old college friend, Dr. Benjamin Horus. Though their academic paths diverged—Horus delved into quantum mechanics, nuclear science, and theoretical astrophysics, while Remus specialized in intelligence and cybersecurity—their bond remained unbreakable.

During the initial Xen invasion of Earth, fate placed Remus and Horus at a budget meeting in Black Mesa. As chaos erupted, they escaped alongside a handful of Black Mesa personnel. Aware of the military’s intent to cover up the crisis, Remus made a fateful decision: he deserted, guiding his companions into hiding. Together, they went underground, evading the tightening grip of authority.

The Seven Hour War brought further devastation, but it also ignited Remus and Horus’s resolve. They spearheaded rescue efforts, saving countless lives amidst the collapse of human resistance. However, during one such mission, Remus vanished without a trace. Rumors swirled of a confrontation with a mysterious government figure in a suit. Horus, devastated by the loss of his friend, presumed him dead. Driven by grief but not despair, Horus rallied surviving rebels and scientists from both Black Mesa and Aperture, including his niece, Victoria Valkyrie, and led an exodus across the seas to City 12.

Horus’s foresight during the initial invasion proved invaluable. He had extracted critical data from Aperture’s systems, including details of subsidized installations worldwide. One such facility, codenamed Grayhill, lay in the remote Franz Josef Archipelago, near City 12. Seizing the opportunity, Horus transformed Grayhill into a fortified hub for scientific research, establishing covert rebel networks beneath City 12’s surface.

Five years later, against all odds, Remus reappeared in City 12. His return was shrouded in mystery—how he survived, where he had been, and why he hadn’t aged a day remained unanswered. Undeterred, Horus welcomed his friend back, and Remus swiftly assumed command of the growing rebel network, christening them the Argent Wolves. While Remus led the resistance, Horus focused on groundbreaking research, uncovering eerie parallels between stolen Combine technologies and Aperture’s innovations.

Recognizing the logistical challenges of operating from the distant archipelago, the Argent Wolves embarked on an ambitious project: “Crusader”. Under Horus’s leadership, and with the expertise of Faust Simmons (his second-in-command and former Black Mesa scientist), Victoria Valkyrie, and chief engineer James Wheelock, the team fused stolen Combine tech with Aperture’s cutting-edge advancements. The result was a colossal flagship, equipped with antigravity systems, dark energy quantum manipulation, and other revolutionary technologies. The Argent Crusader became the spearhead of the Wolves campaign.

The pinnacle accomplishment of the Argent Wolves: Argent Crusader. Composed of combine and rebel technology with some Aperture inspired tech, portraying their technological assimilation and advancement compared to other rebel outposts near urban centers.
