But when I unsubscribed/resubcribed, that fixed the issue.
I tested it in a broken savegame, and it seemed to work fine. Please let me know if the problem persists.
I can hardcode the research to unlock itself if the prerequisites are met upon loading of the savegame, but I don't see a reason to do so at the moment.
i researched nearly everything and it never unlocked.
i think it may have to do with the breakthrough existing or not in a play through, or possibly the fact you changed meat printing from a breakthrough to a general research and some flag isn't checked somewhere. which lead to an idea i had about a new research task that unlocks the breakthrough, so you dont have to change meat printing itself, only add a new research that guarantees you can unlock it. and for that matter, other breakthroughs could be unlocked in a similar manner, like a general research for "brainstorming: {topic/item}" which unlocks the various breakthroughs to then research. i dont know... anyhow, please look into if the 3d printer being already unlocked is the cause or if it has to do with changing a breakthrough to be a general research or something else.
