Yeah totally if you want the diffuse and nothing else you can get it, perfectly clean, the color tint that applies the gradient and the dirt I believe are both on the blue channel, but if you just want a clean diffuse you can get it via the alpha, if you look up the Infected VMT shader on the developer wiki you can get a great run down on how to pick the texture apart.

so if i wanted to clean up the dirt and muck mostly i'd be able to with the current vtfs?

Nah the as far as I know the PSD's for the L4D2 CI have never been publicly released in any capacity. You can get pretty good quality textures just out of the VTF's in the game files though thanks to a lot of the detail being separated between the different channels.

is there psds for all the common infecteds? (including the cut ones like hard rain)

I just got them off the uncommon infected texture, the diffuse is in the alpha which is clean and full resolution and I think the blue channel was the one for the color tinting, it required some editing though since I think blue is also the channel for the dirt overlays.

how did you get such clean textures of the riot gear?
