This mods adds a new faction: the old ones, a tribal analogue of the empire. You can earn titles and new rewards, permits, and more by giving the old ones blood, corpses, and new resources like obsidian and dreamthorn berries.



The old ones are an ancient tribe of devout religious fanatics. Worshiping old, dark gods, they take hallucinogenic dreamthorn berries, consume the flesh of their enemies, and offer blood sacrifices to the old gods. They abhor the Empire and advanced technology, worshipping instead the old, brutal gods of nature.

This mod also introduces three new resources and mechanics: the hallucinogenic dreamthorn berry; the precious resource obsidian; and the psy-enhancing shadowsilk, harvested from shadow worms.







The old ones offer a unique set of permits, which offer more flexibility than the Empire:



So enjoy hurling tornados, teleporting in skilled warriors, and opening portals to stars when the Empire come knocking.





Save-game compatible if you use Vanilla Expanded Framework. Otherwise the new faction won't get any settlements.

If the mod is popular/gets some donations, I'll add some more content. I'd like to add more uses for obsidian, add some more creepy eldritch stuff, and probably some more quests too.

Good to know! I'm very much a novice when it comes to this, I've just started tinkering with small patches in the last few months. Is that an exclusive function, or could it be used along with there permanent enemy exceptions? They are also set to be non-hostile to the gentile tribe, and I've not played with this enough to know if losing that neutrality might break anything.

Removing the permanentEnemyToEveryoneExcept list entirely is better, using <permanentEnemyToEveryoneExceptPlayer>true</permanentEnemyToEveryoneExceptPlayer> will make them friendly to all player starts without having to be manually patched.

In case anyone wants to do it themselves, you can make an xml patch file to insert other mod player factions to this one so that your changes won't be overwritten should this mod update.

For example, this is how you would make the medieval overhaul player faction work:

Final note: adding any modded player factions to the exception list will indeed remove the permanent hostile effect even on existing saves, but it will leave your relationship at -100 so you'll need to use some other method to raise it back up to neutral/friendly.

Yeah, that seems to be the issue. Now I just gotta patch in all the various modded player factions I've accumulated... Also, need to see if it will fix it for existing saves still.

Also having the permanent hostility issue, and noticed that in the faction def, relations are set up to be default hostile to all others, except specific exception factions. The two base game player factions are included (player tribe and player colony), but lots of other mods add alternate player faction options (for example my current starting scenario has me as a Player Kingdom from VE Medieval 2). I'm writing this as I wait for it to load up after hard editing the specific faction def into the exceptions, so we'll see if that fixes it.

Hi, I'm having an issue where i accept the bestowing ceremony but nobody shows up? is this a bug? am I missing something? or do I just have too many mods?
