Requires that you already own the classic "Pacific Surfliner LA - San Diego Route" in order to enjoy this new upto date version.

For the tracks, signals and grade crossings to work you must also own the Stevens Pass Route and the Racetrack: Aurora - Chicago Route.

About:

Forming part of the Amtrak commuter network, the Surfliner route follows the Pacific coastline from San Diego to Los Angeles Union station and beyond. The route as depicted here is almost entirely double-tracked, as per current Google Earth imagery, with the exception of a few single line sections. There are passenger and freight yards at various locations and the line has been upgraded with additional signalling and increased track speeds throughout.

This is a modernized version of the classic "Pacific Surfliner (PS)" route for train simulator. The primary aim of the project is to remodel the track layout to current day layouts, improve the signalling, evolve the scenery along the route and bring the overall experience in line with many recently completed double tracking, station rebuild and route modernisation projects between San Diego and Los Angeles.

An additional side project for the route has seen various extra sections of track added, to give additional scenarios possibilities.

A selection of original scenarios from the original Pacific Surfliner route have been copied over and modified to work with the latest track updates on the new 2023-2024 version of the route and will be available when the route is made final.

The current updates to the route are:

Los Angeles to the North:-
1. Route markers added.
2. Rebuild of West and East side of river tracks and scenery.
3. Metrolink Maintenance Facility added.
4. Tracks and scenery added northwards to Glendale.
5. Glendale station and scenery area added to the route.


Los Angeles to the South:-
1. LAUPT added new platforms, rebuilt tracks and signalling.
2. Los Angeles area trackwork remodel, signalling updates, scenery changes.
3. Los Angeles to Fullerton new tracks (now 3 tracks between those two points as per real life).
4. Redondo Junction area trackwork resignalling and remodelling.
5. Added the Union Pacific J Yard in Los Angeles.
6. Added a short portion of the Alameda Corridor sub-level track for scenario building.
7. Removal of some and addition of other tracks in the Hobart area (freight yards).
8. Rebuild of all sidings in Los Nietos & Santa Fe Springs.
9. Rebuild of both Norwalk and Buena Park station platforms.
10. Fullerton area track improvements, resignalling and track additions.
11. Anaheim area resignalling, station rebuild and new CP Staduim x-overs.
12. Orange and Santa Ana area track remodelling and many disused tracks removed.
13. Grade crossing upgrades and / or removals between Orange and Irvine.
14. Laguna Niguel track renewal, track doubling, signal upgrades.
15. Installation of more double track south of Laguna Niguel with a new Metrolink siding.
16. Added the planned track change "Serra Siding project" - siding extended.
16a. CP Serra removed, future CP Doheny project added to replace it.
17. San Clemente area missing grade crossings added, with fencing.
18. CP Songs to CP Pulgas - installation of elements of double tracking, new signals.
19. Camp Pendleton area - installation of elements of double tracking, new signals.
20. Oceanside Transit Center - platform lengthening, new platform 3 added.
21. Oceanside Transit Center - new track and southern x-over added, new signals.
22. Oceanside area - additional buildings added.
23. Added a basic Coast Highway 'Sprinter' station - on Oceanside wye.
24. Carlsbad Poinsettia - additional buildings, station platform straightening and lengthening.
25. Encinitas station area scenery improvements.
26. CP Swami to CP Cardiff and CP Craven - double track, new crossovers, new signalling.
27. Solana Beach area scenery modernisation.
28. DelMar Fairgrounds (planned) station added.
29. Sorrento Valley - more double track, new crossovers, added bridges, station update.
30. Sorrento to Miramar - double track phase 1.
31. Miramar to San Diego Old Town - double track, new bridges, crossovers, signals, walls.
32. Installation of new crossovers and signals near San Diego Airport.
33. Removal of disused wye opposite Washington St trolley station in San Diego.
34. Added the planned San Diego Convention Center COASTER station along with track works.
35. Rebuild of BNSF San Diego Yard.
36. All quiet zones are now updated using info from the Federal Railroad Administration.

ALSO:
a. Added the San Diego Trolley line built adjacent to main line in the past few years.
b. New portals added to aid scenario building.
c. Scenery replacement / upgrades in various locations.
d. Track speed updates on the full route - as per Caltrans track schematics.
e. Vastly reduced the over usage of signals for every junction and siding on the route - manual switches are back in many locations as per real life.
