7. Assault on Nijmegen [Mission]

Gamemode: Operation (6 phases)
Invaders: United States (allies)
Defenders: Germany (axis)

Despite originally being only lightly defended, the Germans soon realised Nijmegen would be the next major objective and so rushed reinforcements into the city. Once XXX Corps met up with the 82nd Airborne Div. on the 19th, it became known Nijmegen was still under German control. The British and Americans began fighting their way towards the bridge, meeting stiff German resistance in the city, leading to brutal and bloody urban warfare. Even after breaking through to the bridge, the Allies realised the bridge was too heavily defended to cross. To be able to cross it, it would need to be surrounded and taken from both sides - the Americans would attempt this the next day...
