XXX Corps began its advance in the afternoon of September 17th; why they didn't leave earlier than 3PM is still a mystery. The Corps faced many delays due to German ambushes, and so Eindhoven (the first day objective) was not reached until the next day, the 18th. In Eindhoven, the British met up with 101st Airborne units, quickly eliminating the remaining German resistance. British tanks were met with a shower of flowers from the newly liberated Dutch citizens, and a Bailey Bridge was soon constructed over the blown crossing at Son. Despite being a day behind schedule, by the start of the 19th spirits were high: things could be going a lot worse.
