American audiences were introduced to him in TNA (as The Great Sanada), but SANADA has made a much larger impact in Japan while working for NJPW.

While debuting for NJPW, SANADA helped Naito defeat Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, then began teaming with L.I.J. members often in multi-man tag matches.

As a singles competitor, SANADA took part in the 2017 G1 Climax, pinning his stablemate EVIL and finishing with four wins.

SANADA captured the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship for the first time in 2023, defeating rival Kazuchika Okada with a new finisher that is a natural counter to Okada's Rainmaker.
