Era Star Overhaul

描述
Introducing three new era stars, namely Collector Stars, Theologist Stars, and Visionary Stars, this mod enhances the gameplay experience by offering additional play styles for era progression. In each era, players can earn two stars from each of the new stars.

Collector Stars are rewarded based on access to resource types. They are available from the Ancient until the Medieval Era.

Manufacturer Stars are only available in the Early Modern Era and rewarded for the number of Luxury Manufactories owned.

Tycoon Stars are only available in the Industrial Era and rewarded for the number of adjacent Market Districts to Train Stations. Market Districts give a synergy bonus of +2 Money with Train Stations now.

Globalist Stars are only available in the Contemporary Era and rewarded for the number of Market Districts adjacent to Airports. The vanilla game already gives a synergy bonus of +5 for this.

Theologist Stars are obtained by constructing Holy Sites, granting one star for each Holy Site. Foreign Holy Sites can also contribute to the number if they are converted as their state religion.

Visionary Stars are earned by building cultural wonders. The first wonder constructed in each era awards the first star, while the second star requires one or two additional wonders, depending on the number of natural wonders owned and the number of total players.

To amplify the role of technology in era progression, six Scientist Stars are now available.

Builder Stars rely on a wider range of construction events, including Settlement Improvements, Holy Sites and Cultural Wonders. The city count is accounted for in the formulas so that Metropolists have somewhat better chances despite having limited settlement improvements. This doesn't completely eliminate the advantage of having multiple cities though. However, having multiple cities also requires more investment into building all the improvements. Having built natural wonders will also slightly benefit the era star goals.

Militarist Stars encompass more events such as war declarations, units killed by the aggressor, discovered agents from the spy initiator, and created nuclear units.

By default, this mod increases the required era stars for era progression to 2 in the Neolithic Era and 14 in all subsequent eras.

This mod brings balance to the progression mechanics, allowing for diverse play styles, particularly in mods that require more stars per era for progression. The dominance of expansionism is mitigated as building, science, diplomacy, religion, and trade carry more weight.

Please note that this mod has undergone limited testing, especially in terms of balance and formula thresholds. While the formulas appear sound on paper, their validity has not been fully validated. It's possible that some stars are too easy or too difficult to achieve. Relevant feedback will be appreciated, including the difficulty setting, map size, landmass over water ratio, player slot count, and game speed.

Fame Bonuses
Please consider that fame bonuses are awarded per star. This means 6 small fame bonuses amount to 3 medium ones.
Mediocre bonuses are between small and medium ones.

  • Expansionist (☆☆☆): Medium Fame Bonus with 60% for Cultural Orientation
  • Militarist (☆☆☆): Medium Fame Bonus with 60% for Cultural Orientation
  • Farmer (☆☆☆): Medium Fame Bonus with 65% for Cultural Orientation
  • Aesthete (☆☆☆): Medium Fame Bonus with 45% for Cultural Orientation
  • Merchant (☆☆☆): Medium Fame Bonus with 40% for Merchant Orientation
  • Collector (☆☆): Mediocre Fame Bonus with 20% for Merchant Orientation
  • Manufacturer (☆☆): Mediocre Fame Bonus with 20% for Merchant Orientation
  • Tycoon (☆☆): Mediocre Fame Bonus with 20% for Merchant Orientation
  • Globalist (☆☆): Mediocre Fame Bonus with 20% for Merchant Orientation
  • Builder (☆☆☆): Medium Fame Bonus with 40% for Builder Orientation
  • Visionary (☆☆): Mediocre Fame Bonus with 25% for Builder Orientation
  • Scientist (☆☆☆☆☆☆): Mediocre Fame Bonus with 42% for Scientist Orientation
  • Theologist (☆☆): Mediocre Fame Bonus with 10% for Cultural Orientation

Known Issues
  1. The badge color of the Scientist Stars only updates from Level 0-3, stopping with the bronze badge. The badges of levels 4-6 are defined in the UI Mapper but ignored by the game.
  2. The game shows three available stars above two-star era star types. This is only a visual glitch. The badges are correctly shown, silver for the first, gold for the second star.

Compatibility
  • ENC and Triple Alliance: The first version of a compatibility patch is available here.
  • Additional Mechanic Complexity: compatible without patch, just apply it after AMC
  • Vanilla Improvement Project: compatible without patch, just apply it after VIP
  • Culture Super Pack: compatible without patch

@Cylun : For the endless loop bugs, have you tried to restart the game, between the loading of mods and the launch of a new game ? I do this regularly, and I have not this bug. I hope you could enjoy HK with this, as for me.

I think that a way to avoid the "bug", I mentionned 3 hours ago, is to not have some Resource Stars in advance, before changing one's culture. Just managing that, and this "bug" should not appear.

@RoyRyKfr It's a mix of underwhelming impression and frustration about bugs I can't fix. In theory, I could create real code mods for this Unity game, but that wouldn't work in Workshop. And bugfixing isn't really the purpose of a modding community. I've encountered the very same issue during my first playthrough of Endless Space 2, naturally also with mods enabled. For an issue that's been known for so long, you could expect that they implement a auto troubleshooting, and auto recovery system. It's not a big challenge imo, just not a priority it seems.

I enjoyed everything else about ES2, but when you're half way into the game, and then it turns to frustration, so many years after release, I won't touch it again.

Hi @Cylun. I have just discovered this mod you have made... I like the way your mod makes HK different. I have also just read all the comments below, and I have noticed your disappointment about HK. Do you still feel underwhelmed currently by the game ? As for me, I still very like it. And I do not remember suffering with any endless loop, during my more 500 gaming hours... I contact you today, because I think I found a potential blocking bug in your mod : when I rise the Early Modern Era, with a Resource Star already got, the Resource Star counter goes down back to 0, while a star is shown on top of the 3 expected for this new era. It is very strange. It is like if I am in advance in this Resource Star counter, this "bug" appears. Do you think you could change something to this mod ? Thanx.

Thanks for the reply.

I suspect they are working on hk2. The state of HK is dismal and probably would require a rewrite of all the code. I personally like hk over civilization series. Sid got carried away with history and such. I want to design my own leader like HK.

Anyways that is a shame. civ 7 was a let down and my son spent 120$ on it for my birthday.

Thanks for your work I appreciate it. You and a few others will get a kick back soon when I get some cash.

regardless the bugs I play it everyday. I restart once the endless turn happens. lol

@Cosmic Fox Yes, it's a well known issue that the game runs into this endless loop issue and it's difficult to trace to a specific reason. After all, HK mods only modify the parameters that the game exposes, don't code mod anything. So the game should be able to auto recognize and resolve when it runs into an endless loop.

I also hope for a HK2, not going to buy Civ 7. I considered revisiting this game now, but I don't think it's worth it. Maybe if there will be a big expansion... but this endless loop issue has been well known for years. And it's frustrating if you have to discard a slow/endless mode save.

Also, I think this mod wasn't ready for the later eras, due to balancing issues and situations where the stars became unreachable. It's ironic that some criticism of Civ 7 also includes their era switch system.

Hey @Cylun I am running the usual mods that most everyone does. For some reason ESO does not let the turn end. I suspect it is HK not you but thought I would ask. lol

I hope they either fix this version of HK or make HK 2. I am a recovering Civilization addict over 30 years. Civ 7 killed the series for me. :P peace

Why does the science stars complete themselves without any input
Cylun  [作者] 2023 年 11 月 16 日 上午 12:25
It's not one of my priorities at the moment. The reason for this is that I feel underwhelmed by the game in its current state, especially in the late game. The DLCs have not introduced the game mechanics that keep me engaged.

any chances for an update?
Cylun  [作者] 2023 年 8 月 1 日 下午 12:16
It's likely an issue with the game itself and not with the mod.
