Disclaimer: This mod was written by gpt4. I didn't program any part of this addon, and all I did was to provide instructions to the AI. You could probably make a much better version yourself.

This is a really bad addon that somebody wanted me to upload, so why not. Also, there isn't really other addon like this on the workshop, except for one that's like 10 years old.

It delays sounds based on distance, except for certain sounds that don't like being processed.

It features some console commands which might come in handy to fine tune it, and for the user himself to manually work around incompatibilities as the need arises with certain types of sounds (looping sounds).

"rsd_enable" "0" or "1" - on or off for the entire addon

"rsd_speed_of_sound" "hammer units per second" - I found around 16000 to sound the most like the claimed to be realistic value of Dynamic Weapon Reverb 2. This value is the default.

Below will be commands for you to easily make certain sounds be excluded from processing, and to instead play them just like before, without realistic delay. I've excluded some sounds for you by default:

"rsd_add_exclusion" and "rsd_remove_exclusion" ""yoursoundprefix/"" - adds a sound by it's prefix to be excluded from being processed by this addon.

Examples:

rsd_add_exclusion "physics/" - all physics sounds

rsd_add_exclusion "vehicle/" - vehicle sounds

rsd_remove_exclusion "ambient/fire_small_loop3" - adds to be excluded a certain specific sound

"rsd_show_exclusions" - prints the current list of excluded sounds in the console

Tip: To get the first characters of a certain sound that's bugged out, enter "sv_cheats 1" to the console, and after that, also enter "snd_show 1" to the console. In the top right corner, you will see info about the currently playing sounds, including the entire name of each sound.


I gave up on delaying the explosions, which are so important to the overall experience. It turns out you need a guy working solely on explosions to pull it of, which luckily there exists. Check out Zippy's mod, "Explosion Replacer". You can even get yourself some sick looking effect replacements with it.
