This mod came about from a discussion of what cores Byzantium should start the game with, namely that by the rules of the game Byzantium should have a core on most of the Greek Islands in the Aegean and Ionian seas, but the concern was overwhelming them with prestige loss for unclaimed cores. This mod splits the difference, only allowing the cores to be awarded after the "Recover Greece" mission is fulfilled.

In addition to awarding cores, Byzantium also has a few options for how to reclaim the islands. They can just avail of the accompanying Reconquest CB, or they can bargain with the usual holders of the islands to surrender them peacefully, or threaten in order to get them for free. Or you can conduct a condensed version of supporting rebels, at the risk of the islandholder declaring war on you in retribution. And if you're Catholic, say from completing the Union Revolt Disaster in my associated Council of Florence Mod, you have even more options!

Coding issue which may affect gameplay: If you're trying to provoke a revolt, some of the islands don't actually spawn Byzantine Separatists. This still will get you the island if their owner doesn't respond in time, but unlike the other islands the rebel stack won't disband for some reason, so be ready to put down the revolt. If anyone knows why this isn't working properly let me know.

For people who still have this mod on their playsets, I have a new mod which aims to reintroduce the content from the suggestions list on top of the landscape that Paradox sculpted in King of Kings and Winds of change. Not everything I built has been incorporated into it yet, but I hope to add what is appropriate over time. Feel free to check it out and I hope you enjoy it!

@RMS Oceanic I really love your mod series to expand ERE sensibly without artificial debuffs like what 1.36 KoK did. Do you plan to update your mod series to 1.37, and if at all possible either help make it compatible with Europa Expanded or make a standalone mission tree to pair with your mods?

I feel like this video's political events could be added into this mod specifically.

Just so people who enjoy this mod are aware, I unfortunately am not in a position to update it for 1.36. While I don't think the 1.36 content we've seen so far actually clashes with it, I'm in the process of updating my computer so don't want to have a look at this until that migration is complete. Once I'm established and have experienced what 1.36 has to offer I'll see what can remain as future suggestions.

@Jorgito well that's a different mod, but you're right, at the moment it explicitly ties into the vanilla mission tree. But I thought Europa Expanded already had its own pseudo-disaster that required pushing back the Ottomans.

@Jorgito, this mod doesn't depend on completing the mission, just owning the provinces you'd need to complete the mission (Mainland Greece basically). As long as Europa Expanded doesn't change the map or province designation this mod should be compatible with it.

I would like to use this mod with Europa expanded but it doesn't have the recover greece mission, could you make compatible with the another mission of that mod? (btw i really like the work that you're doing to byzantium)

@PapaStalin I've indeed researched Asia Minor, and from what I've gleaned while there was definite Greek Minorities for the entirety of Ottoman rules, it didn't look like they were significant enough to mark them as Greek on the map, hitting that problem of binary culture status that makes everyone look longingly at Victoria II. The one possible exception was Smyrna/Sugla, the one the Knights has a core on, but in 1402 Timur massacred so many Greeks the Turks became the majority population at game start, even if later migration restored its Greek presence until the 1920s. That said I am working on a Culture-based suggestion mod for Byzantium that would allow easier restoration of Greek culture in parts of Anatolia, and as part of this Byzantium will start with a couple of Anatolian cores. No idea when it will be ready, so stay tuned I guess.

Any plans to include the anatolian coasts? I heard and read that there were still a majority of greek orthodox christians and always wanted to have events and cores regarding them.
