This shop was inspired by Amatos Toy and Hobby in New Britain, Connecticut. This store was torn down and condos are being built on the site. Amatos was opened in 1940 and one store still remains in Middletown, CT.

Other Props

Besides the included Amatos sign prop one lighting prop that stays on all day and night was used to illuminate the deep recessed alcove of the entry doors.

Background on Little Italy collection

This shop is part of my for my Little Italy collection. The collection focuses on independent Italian American businesses with appealing vintage signage that have endured for decades in places like NYC, Philly, Detroit, St Louis, SF, etc.. Expect to see pasta shops, cheese shops, cafes, bakeries, butchers and much more.

I've been to Amatos in Middletown several times, it's such a wonderful store. I never expected to see it on here but I'm glad you made it! Keep up the great work!

Man, this reminds me so much of an amazing hobby store i once had in my hometown. The facade was tiny (in Cities Skylines terms maybe 1 tile width) but inside the walls were literally hidde behind stacks and stacks of scale model kits and everything you need. And not just the regular kits and brands you get at every run of the mill TRU or Amazon...nope, that shop had model kits from manufacturers and and cars you never heard of.Tuning parts, wheels, heck, even loose spare and custom parts. It was basically like the wand shop in the first Harry Potter movie, but with scale model kits. Too bad the owner had to close many years ago.
Awesome asset btw, will definitely plop this baby down in my city.

Tamiya, Monogram, Aurora, Revell, Cox, etc. I really miss those days of what seemed like 1,000s of model kits colorfully lining the shelves. Where did it all go? Thanks for this, Gilded Age. Your name really applied in this case. :steamhappy:
