-- is there any fix for this?
If we keep replying to people and ask them to keep using Nov8th version then they will just be more upset after few months when the client breaks further (friend list, login, etc...)
Also Steam nov8th is stuck on steamapi21, meaning that you already can't run some games like CS2.
All im saying is that most people from this guide want:
1) To have fully working client (with all features)
2) Use minimal "workarounds" as possible
Now since June most comments here are by people complaining that the last version of W7 Steam is no longer "functional" (for me, and many others, means that it can't download games), so they are asking for the easiest method to fix this problem.
They don't want to use steamcmd, find depot id, manifest id, etc...
That's why best solution (at least to the question "how to fix corrupted download") is to:
1) Download latest Steam client
2) Use VxKext on "steamwebhelper.exe"
3) Launch steam.exe with -overrideminos
This way:
1) Steam will always be kept updated to latest version
2) All client features are working as expected
3) VxKext is not injected in Steam.exe, this avoids having issues with DRM and VAC!
I would love if I wasn't a part of this beyond just archiving (nearly) every Steam version... I don't mind helping, but at this point I am getting tired of keeping up with the comments when I am otherwise not participating at all
not sur it's something needed as we can find everything in your guide, here or in your blog
Not everyone is memory limited. Therefore, either solution is valid.
At the same time, someone who would want to do this anew would have nowhere to go because these comments talk about everything all at once. That is my issue.
aye if you are using vxkex , the last available steam will work and so you won't have anymore any kind of issue with the client like the need to use depotdownloader or steamcmd each time an update of any of you game is been made ...
and @TiberiumFusion, also noted that the use of zstd is spreading on old games depot , that did not recieved any update
so yes using vxkex is the easy solution but on the same time , you will use a steam client that will use twice the amout of memory an older one is using ( 450mo under old cef before < cef109 and more than 850mo under cef 109+ )
