Soviet Tram 71-605 (KTM-5)

KTM-5 is a serial Soviet tramcar produced by the Ust-Katav Carriage Works. Over 23 years of production, 14,000 cars of various modifications were made, making it the most popular tramcar in the world. Streetcars of this series can be found all over the post-Soviet territory: in the cities of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Latvia. Mass production of the streetcar became possible due to cheap and simple design. Nevertheless, this cheapness was at odds with passenger comfort: the car was made of cheap materials and simple design solutions, was noisy, had uncomfortable seats, poor cushioning, and high steps. In addition, in different periods of production, there were problems with the quality of assembly. Finally, cheapness also affected the appearance of the streetcar, which was devoid of any design solutions. But all that did not prevent it from making history and continuing to operate in some Russian cities to this day.
