How did they mess this up?

Something unexpected this time, a crowbar reskin using the texture that was intended to actually be used in the retail game of HL2, but Valve for some strange reason, decided to use the earlier texture that was actually meant for the 2002 crowbar with the retail purple head, its obvious if you look at the coloring of the head and body texture, however most believed that the supposed to be in retail handle texture was for the 2002 head for years.

I also took the time to fix the head texture of the crowbar by filling out the black spots, a bit better than my previous reskins giving the edges more worn like the rest of the original head texture, and remade the normalmaps for the new textures the same way Valve did as the originals were based on the beta textures.

I think someone was supposed to make a new model for the texture so they used the old handle texture because they ran out of time to finalize the game and the beta handle texture fit the model better

unsure if anyone else has this, but for some reason this addon stopped working out of the blue one day? i don't recall installing any addons that could break it either, so im really confused

I think the 2002 texture makes it look somewhat more faded and worn.

No flak to this one, though.

Well now you do, nearly a decade later.

its probably not 100% accurate, the handle texture would (likely) need to stretch the existing UV horizontally as the reason it was unused was probably because Valve would need to do that to the UV to make it fit the texture better, considering how badly done the head UV was in the final game to show black spots, they probably just didnt care and opted to use the 2002 handle out of laziness, while i could attempt to refit the handle UV, i lack the proper experience to do that as a mainly texture dude with very limited modeling stuff, plus that would come at the cost of making it incompatible with reanimation mods.
