Requirements:
Lua For Barotrauma is required. Client side lua is not needed!
This mod is intended for multiplayer only.

Made for Roleplay
As you may know, you always lose all of your experience points when creating a new character in multiplayer. This is fine for a default campaign, but it can get quite annoying if you're playing a roleplay campaign with perma-death which requires you to create a new character on every death. With Staying Smart you'll always keep your experience from your previous character to not start from scratch on every death.

IMPORTANT INFO:
It is recommended to disable respawn as to not respawn within the same round/level with a new character where your previous character died in!
If you still respawn and pick up items, make sure to drop them before changing the level or those items will be lost!

If you lose connection to the server when going through a loading screen after you created a new character in that round, your experience may get reset to 0 and you'll lose all talents like in the default game. This is a game bug and I can't do anything about it.
This may also happen when you go back to the server lobby within the same round you created a new character in. It is recommended to at least play 1 additional round after character creation.


Load Order:
Anywhere. It doesn't matter.

@paris: It doesn't make sense in permadeath mode since when you die you're locked out of the campaign forever... It probably also doesn't work with ironman mode since you're not creating a new character and instead take over a different character.

Upon relaunch of the campaign I didn't get the XP back ),: Not sure if not supposed to happen or worth addint to 'important info'. I was the host, no crash, just saved to lobby after a game where I'd created a fresh character for next time.

Also worth mentioning that this only works for characters that were created after the mod was installed, as it gives a talent on creation.

Actually that respawn tooltip is a lie at the moment, characters keeping their skills (while having a temporary % debuff) was the behavior in the update when reaper's tax was first implemented. However for some reason in a later update then the devs then decided to rollback this behavior back to the 'permadeath' system, so somewhat paradoxically reaper's tax is actually a debuff that reduces your new character 's default starting stats below their starting value.

Yes this keeps the experience and talent points, not the individual skills. So no this is not part of the base game.

So this keeps all exp (talent points) you earned on previous character and talents you got by other means, but not the skills right?
