Following on from the successful test of the MK-I prototype ( http://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=294121734 ), Mal-Tek brings you the full fledged production model MK-II Piston Driven Shaft Miner.

Included in the package is:
-The original Mk-I piston shaft miner, whilst basic and not as refined at the MK-II the MK-I provides a cheap, light weight solution to your deep core mining needs.
-The MK-II/A - a bare bones, no nonesense yet fully featured MRF (Miner/Refiner/Fabricator)
-The MK-II/B - everything the MK-II/A has and more! (like walls and lights)

The features of the MK-II model are:
- A 17.5m square True-Bore mining head on a piston driven shaft burrowing to depths of up to 100m. This will gnash through 1,750 cubic meters of rock in no time!
- Gravity ore collector - not much escapes the array of 49 large drills but anything that does is sucked up into the Rig via it's gravity collection system
- Piston mounted landing gear, not only does this allow you to lower the drill head securely into astro-firma it also allows you to adjust the gear length independently to maximize your grip on stubbornly shaped roids.

- Heavy Industry - this Rig doesn't just mine, ou no:
-16 onboard internal Refineries allow the ore to processed as soon as it leaves the drills
-12 internal onboard Fabricators allow the Rig to produce everything a sector needs in a timely manor
-4 Large Cargo Containers means the Rig isn't in a hurry to offload its wares
-All of this is interconnected through a multi-redundant-linked conveyor system.
- Landing Pad with connectors - up to five large cargo pods may be docked to the Rig to allow for seamless transfer of cargo, made of heavy armor to resist thruster burns and pilot error (B model only)
- A Robust power system
-Main Power: An array of 32 small reactors provide an ample 160 MW (A model may have less)
-Aux Power: Two banks, of 20 batteries each, allow for a more than ample 10 hours of reserve power (B model only)
-Backup Power: Each side of the Rig mounts an array of 6 solar panels, even when out of fuel and out of juice the Rig can still limp to the nearest roid to munch down some Uranium instead of becoming an expensive floating space hazard. (B model only)
- Two medbays and crew rest area, because even grizzled space miners need a spot to patch up their boo-boos or just kick back and enjoy the view with a can of ale. (B model only)
- Tandem cockpits (B model only) - Hotkey functions are duplicated across both cockpits, external cockpit allows easier navigation, internal allows better monitoring of the drill

Now you probably want to know how to use this thing:
1. Find an asteroid with an ore field under a relatively flat surface
2. Deploy the landing gear with Page-1/Hotkey-1
3. Slowly attempt to land on the roid, try to get atleast 3 gears on yellow
4. Lock gear with P1/H2
5. Turn off Crew Gravity with P1/H4 and turn on collector array with P1/H5
6. Turn on drill stabilization gyros with P1/H6 and thrusters P1/H7
7. Turn on drill heads with P1/H8
8. Retract landing struts with P1/H1
The Rig will now bite into the roid as the struts drag it downwards, wait until struts are fully retracted before continuing
9. Release Clamp with P1/H9
Quickly turn to page 2
10. Extend piston head with P2/H1
11. Wait until piston is fully extended (this can be viewed either through the control panel or waiting for Drill Head's distance to halt)
12. Repeat steps 10 & 11 through P2/H2-8 [!!DO NOT EXTEND MORE THAN ONE PISTON AT ONCE!! THIS WILL BEND YOUR SHAFT, GIVE YOU A WONKY HOLE, AND KNACKER YOUR SHAFTHEAD. Nobody likes a bent shaft and a broken head]
13. Open the Rig's inventory and check refineries all have ore - currently the conveyor system doesn't properly load balance
14. Once piston is full extended, turn off drill with P2/H9
15. Retract the pistons, 1 by 1 in reverse order of step 12 (i.e. P2/H8-1)
16. Lock head in place with Clamp (P1/H9), turn off stabilisers (P1/H7, P1/H6)
17. Unlock landing gear (P1/H3)
18. Hold S to back rig out of hole and away from roid until atleast 30m away
19. Change grav system back to Crew (P1/H5, P1/H4)
19. Sod off elsewhere to find another virgin rock to tear apart with your big shaft.

Additional Hotkeys:
Page 3 is blank, this is reserved for strut controls to do later

Page 4: Subsystem power controls
1. Internal Lights
2. Ore Detectors
3. Refineries
4. Assemblers
5. Battery Bank: Lower Deck
6. Battery Bank: Upper Deck
7. Crew Gravity emitters
8. Ore collector emitters
9. Reactors

@Malkevin, still an awesome creation after all these years though. even if i couldnt make it work it helped me create my miner. thank you so much.

@sparkleyCan The command assignments got broken long ago.

Christ, has it been 3 years already???
I keep meaning to come back and redo this.

now this is maybe a problem just for me but i cant find any commands on the hotbar, should it be like that?

great job

Whats the speed of your pistons?

You want no more than 0.3m/s, otherwise the shaft will bend

I loved this thing so much that I'm attempting to build my own using a captured Mining Carrage, But I can't make it work right. The clamps keep coming loose, and the pistons get incredibly unstable while drilling.

FYI: Last Thursday's patch changed the bounding boxes on small thrusters, so for now the stabilizers don't work correctly without blowing each other off.

So, uhhh, don't use them.

This looks like a true industrial masterpiece, i`ll check it out :)

I like how you added thrusters and gyros to stabilize the drill head. I tried a similar rig to this and it only worked well with gyros and thrusters too.
