Resident Evil challenge brings a combat experience heavily inspired by Resident Evil game series to AS:RD.

In this challenge, ammo is scarce, forcing players to make their shots count.
To combat this disadvantage (and until you get your hands on sufficient ammunition and better firearms to defend yourself), your melee combat capabilities are much greater and more complicated than before:

Dealing damage to some swarm types in different ways are able to stagger them with different amounts of force. You are able to deal a much greater amount of melee damage against staggered enemies, as well as creating a pushing force against nearby enemies.

Staggered enemies come with glow indicators used for identifying them.
Staggerable enemies are Drones, Rangers, and Uber Drones.

(Important tip: Chainsaws should not be used in a traditional way against staggerable enemies for this challenge!)
You will also have access to chainsaws with limited durability. They are able to instantly kill any staggered drones.
Furthermore, switching to a chainsaw right before taking damage from any swarm (including certain projectiles) allows you to PARRY the attack, completely neglecting and deflecting the damage.
Failed parries will put you in an one second cooldown before you can attempt to parry again.

Killed swarms have a chance of dropping loot that can assist you in your run. Strategize your approach and make your shots count to make sure you don't run out of ammo too soon.

All other swarm types remain unchanged, except Shieldbugs and Boomers whose health have been halved.
All parasites are replaced by doubled amount of xenomites.

All marines can hack.

Officers:
- Can acquire Incendiary Mines from loot drops.
- Can acquire Officer-exclusive Grenade Launchers from loot drops.
Special Weapons:
- Can acquire Miniguns from loot drops.
Medics:
- Can acquire Heal Beacons from loot drops.
- Can acquire Medical SMGs from loot drops.
Techs:
- Can turn sentries into combat drones with corresponding weapons attached.
- Can acquire Bullet Sentries or Grenade Sentries from loot drops.


Chainsaws:
- Cannot stagger
- Insta-kills staggered enemies
- Bonus damage against non-staggerable enemies
- Can be used to parry any alien damage by switching to it right before taking damage
Pistols:
- High stagger chance
- High bonus damage against Uber Drones
Rifles:
- Low stagger chance
- Rifle grenade deals high damage
Shotguns:
- Guaranteed stagger
- High damage
Sniper Rifles:
- Guaranteed stagger
- High damage
- Thermal scope can see targets through the dark fog
Bulldogs:
- Guaranteed stagger
- High damage
Flamers:
- Cannot stagger
- Bonus direct damage against Drones and Ranger
Miniguns:
- Guaranteed stagger
- High damage (40 dmg per shot)
Grenade Launchers:
- Guaranteed stagger
- High damage
Medical SMGs:
- Medium stagger chance
- Can refill meds via ammo pickup
Hand Grenades:
- Guaranteed stagger
- High damage
Freeze Grenades:
- Guaranteed stagger
- Large blast radius
- Instakills Harvesters
- Instakills Xenomites
- Instakills Shamans
Trip Mines:
- High damage
- Ignores enemy one-shot protection
