Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company Housing

This is the first installation of a series of asset packs to bring early to mid 1900's American steel industry to Transport Fever. I will be attempting to bring as many assets inspired by the steel industries of northeast Ohio such as: The Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. , McDonald Steel, Republic Steel, and of course, United States Steel.

The Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company Houses were a groundbreaking project when built. They were the first major housing project in the world using prefabricated concrete components to create neighborhoods. The entire project started as a response to a January 1916 steelworker strike and subsequent riot over immigrant and minority worker conditions.

As of 1940, Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. sold off the properties and following the closure of the Campbell Works division of YS&T many of these houses have fallen into disrepair. Many have been victims of vandalism and arson. However, in 2013 the Iron Soup Historical Preservation, a non-profit group, has been purchasing and rehabilitating buildings in the Blackburn Plat as affordable housing for veterans and others.
