Land Battles with Capture Point

Since Warhammer Total War first launched, Land Battle tournaments have always used custom settings rather than CA’s default “quick-battle” design, improving both game balance and quality of game play.

Ensuring Active Engagement with a Capture Point:
“Attacking rules”, “white line” rules, and other rules of engagement are typically used in Land Battles to prevent draw kiting and ensure players actively engage.

In this mod, we use a capture point to accomplish the same goals, but without the need for any subjective rules or oversight by an admin. The resulting gameplay is more free form - you can use terrain as you like and attempt to force your opponent to engage on your terms, but ultimately players will have to engage around the center.

Here’s the gist:
- There is one small central capture point on each map that is unlocked from the start. If either player/team accumulates 800 tickets controlling the cap, they win.
- You can also win when the enemy army is completely routed, or if the enemy surrenders, which will be much more common.
- The timer ticks twice as fast after minute 14 of the battle, helping to ensure games resolve in a speedy manner. Additionally, between minutes 3-14, the timer (temporarily) ticks twice as fast after any 30 second period where neither player dealt significant amounts of damage. This ensures that if neither player engages actively the pressure increases to engage the enemy,
- We have modified unit capture rates so that taking a capture point happens faster than in Domination, and so that flying units have a very small amount of capture weight:
Cap weights for units are: Inf/artillery (30) > Cav (20) >Monsters/heroes (17) > Expendable units (13) >> Flyers/Summons (4)
- We were not able to duplicate the “Army Losses” game mechanic. Units will still rout and shatter individually, but you will no longer win a game simply because you achieved a big advantage on the balance of power.

Embedded Unit Caps:
Unit caps that improve on CA’s default unit caps are important to good Land Battle balance. To make unit caps easier and rulebreaks rarer, we have hard-coded the “Fruit Rules” unit caps directly into the game. Players and admins will no longer need to worry about reading a rulebook or running afoul of most unit cap rules.

There are a few things we couldn’t hard code. Caps on duplicate spells, activatable items, mortis engines and nets are the other things we couldn’t hard code and could be added manually through tournament rules. But 99% of the Fruit Rules unit caps are automatic for players and admins in this mod.

Recommended Rules of Play for Admins:
- Unit Caps on (We have embedded “Fruit” Rules unit caps into the mod).
- Default funds (12,400) and Ultra unit scale.
- Armies must contain at least 400 unit models (e.g. a skavenslave unit has 180 models)
In addition, an army may not contain:
• Duplicates of any selectable item or ability priced above 0 that has a limited
number of uses.
• Duplicates of any selectable spell or rune. Bound spells are not selectable.
• More than 1 passive health draining ability, including conditional drains.
• More than 2 total nets, of which only 1 may be targetable.


New Maps:
In this latest version of the mod we now have more than 20 maps. While they are all excellent maps they are designed to cater to a wide variety of map tastes. Please review this table for some details about the maps to help you pick which to play:

Hey! Would this mod every be configured to work for AI and/or in Campaign? Say in a Head-2-Head campaign with players?

Hey BoopTheSnoot, no sorry i don't know how one would make it work in campaign land battles. Fortunately campaigns have their own internal logic for who wants to attack vs defend (or retreat) in a fight.
