North Africa Mod - Shifting Sands

Shifting Sands aims to bring the battles of the North African campaign to life in Squad 44. The project began in the summer of 2020, and has grown massively since then.

Our team is made up of members from around the world and across the Squad 44 community. Collectively we have poured thousands of hours of work into the mod in an effort to accurately bring one of the most dynamic, exciting, and terrifying theatres of WWII to Squad 44.



Experience the harsh realities of desert warfare as a member of Rommel's Afrika Korps or the British 8th Army. Join mechanised assaults across sweeping landscapes and close quarter fighting in entrenched positions. Use a variety of new assets to gain an advantage in a brutal landscape.

We strive to make historically accurate battlefields and locations. To that end we have done painstaking research into the topography, geology, climate, and flora of the areas you will be fighting over. Using both historical photographs and the modern day technology at our disposal, our map designers have been able to recreate the environment of the Western Desert campaign like never before.

Our levels provide a challenging experience for even the most veteran Squad 44 player, offering a totally new experience.




Be ready to fight in unique divisions such as the 9th (Australian) Division, 7th Armoured Division, 15th Panzer Division, and the Ariete Division.

All of our factions have unique historically accurate uniforms, insignia, and design, to bring a colourful variety to the battlefield.

Shifting Sands brings unique new vehicles to the game to tackle any situation - from armoured cars, to tanks, and self-propelled artillery. All have been brought to life with great attention to detail and historical authenticity to the models and camouflage.

We have added a host of new weapons suitable for the 1941 period of the campaign, including the Thompson M1928A1, Bren Mk. I, and MP38/40, as well as a number of new grenades and explosives to counter enemy vehicles.
