Tried doing this but for the game to recognise it as a National Wonder, it can only be built once by definition. Maybe a way around this but not something I know unfortunately.
Thanks for the feedback. So a) Unintended but don't know how to fix easily so now a feature! b) It had the same cost as other National Wonders but by the Modern Era, this can usually just be a turn or two so upped the cost. c & d) Had thought about that idea but not something I'm interested in making, sorry. This was just a one-off thing to create with some unused assets.
Not part of my design, sorry. If you're familiar with modding the game, you need make the Conscript require the "RA_NATIONAL_SERVICE_MARKER" building to build, give them a production cost and not make them obsolete at Agriculture (that's just a fail-safe to prevent them appearing elsewhere). Otherwise, we'll have to seek out guides I'm afraid.
Great mod. I just played SMan's WWI scenario and it was great having all these infantry units turn up. I could be so WWI and throw them at the enemy. And it slowed advances down because of the extra defenders.
But ...
a) When I captured an enemy city I got a free conscript. Maybe that shouldn't happen but I'm not too worried.
b) In the scenario it took 7 turns to build, but in a standard game I had enough production to do it in one turn. Should it be quicker to build?
c) As requested below could there be one of these buildings for each era? Only once per era and the infantry unit one level below what you can build yourself.
d) If so that would make the mod more of a "Conscripts and Levies". In older times it was the King marching through an area grabbing peasants to fill out his army.
Yes I just thought something like that. I'm to really basic modder, hence i can understand how not easy some things could be.
Still i'll keep my hopes and wishes for the future - hwo knows how it may evolve.
I also remembered mod name I exampled - Militia Defence it is called. Maybe it will help.
Negative promotion is kind of an interesting idea though.
And later-tier conscriptions are also can make sence since while they are not overpowered they still can be upgraded.
One more thought. It feels like National Service in Capital physically just can't organize conscription nationwise. Hence to have an ability to enlist conscriptors in any particular city one need a special building in this city.
Thanks. No, the conscript doesn't change with era though you can upgrade them. Good ideas but I'm a pretty novice modder, out of my skill-set. This was just a minor wonder addition, nothing fancy mechanics-wise - as you say, there's probably more in-depth versions of this out there.
It can only be built once, I thought it might be a little overpowered if you can build it multiple times even with the population loss.
1. Does conscript unit scales with era? Because I just had Riflemen (or something like that) spowned in modern or industrial era. I think it definitely should be either fit to current infantery tier or be one tier before the current.
2. We really DO need mechanics to make them spawn more then 1 time per game. So here is my suggestion:
Instead of spawning conscripts the time the building was built, wount it be better to make it spawn conscripts every time your CIV enters a war with other CIV (not City-State) no matter if you attack or defend? That would only make sence I guess.
There is also kind of alike mod - Mobilization (or something like that). There you got 3 current era infantry units spawn as soon as enemy unit crosses your border. This is alike but not just the same and one just finely fits another.
Cheers and thanks for good work!
Please keep those mods vanila (gnk) compatible and cross-compatible!
Good luck!
