SS Edmund Fitzgerald

Here is the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, one of the most famous shipwrecks in history!

She was built in the United States as a Great Lakes freighter, and at the time she was built, the largest ship on the Great Lakes. In her early years, she carried iron ore from mines from Duluth to other ports on the Great Lakes. On November 10th, 1975, she sank in Lake Superior while carrying a full cargo of iron ore. All 29 of her crew were killed in the sinking. Today, Edmund Fitzgerald remains the largest shipwreck on the Great Lakes, and is one of the most famous shipwrecks in history, even inspiring the song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot. The last ship to come in contact with the Edmund Fitzgerald was the Arthur M. Anderson, another Great Lakes freighter that is still in service today!
