The game doesn't change the anm2 file if you didn't restart the game after activating the mod. So, if you are still seeing the name at the bottom, your items and what killed you, restart the game

A quick tip for people for whom the mod does not work - it is because of the Neko lost mod. But I found a way to use both of them. So all you have to do is go to the files of the game, then go to mods, then to neko tlost file, then you click on resources, then gfx, then ui, and lastly there should be an image named death portraits.png - just delete it or remove it from the folder, restart the game and both mods should be working just fine
