Garry's Mod Parallax Mapping

Before you start being retarded down in the comments, you need to read this whole description to understand wtf this addon is. So stick with me before even commenting. Thats the only thing I ask. PLEASE!

So, you're a teenager who loves to play video games. You probably have thousands of favorite games and are probably amazed by the graphics of it. You probably stared up to a surface, a wall, a house, a brick, or just anything that has texture in a game and you're just like "Wow this looks really realistic. I can see the small details just like in real life.".

You can thank those realistic features to a texture technique called, "Normal maps". I will summarize it quickly as possible, but normal map is essentially:

It's a texture technique that makes you think it has depth and features Ias if they have any geometry, even though it's just a flat image. It does this by using lightning. Get your flashlight and put it on top of a wall, you would see the surface has bumps in the front but at the back it's just dark thus, it looks bumpy and 3D. That's normal maps summarized.

Normal maps is in almost every 3d game. It's in Garry's mod, Half life 2, GTA Games, Counter strike, Call of duty, etc... You name it.

If normal mapping is FAKE 3D, then what is parallax mapping?

First, wtf is the word "Parallax" ? So, Parallax means:

So if you look at something with a parallax map at different angles, like looking at a wall of bricks. That means it would not look flat and unrealistic like in garry's mod, instead you would see the depth and the features of the brick just like in real life.

The difference between normal maps and Parallax maps, is that parallax maps ACTUALLY adds depth or 3D features that normal maps dont have. So it's actually KIND of 3D. HOWEVER, parallax maps is STILL fake 3D.

An actual 3D adds geometry. Let's recap with a simple explanation:

Normal maps = Flat images look 3D but has no geometry
Parallax maps = Flat images look 3D and has REAL depth, features, details, but has no geometry.
Real 3D = Flat images ARE 3D and has geometry.

1. Subscribe to this addon
   
2. Download this link(IMPORTANT): PBR SHADER DOWNLOAD(CLICK ME)
   
3. Extract everything in the zip file to your steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod folder
   
4. Go to gm_parallaxmap
   
   
5. Done

Go to the Spawn menu(Press Q) -> Options -> PBR Parameters. There you can edit the depth of the parallax maps just like in the showcase.
