X-111 Scarab (3 slot)

X-111 "Scarab" is the modified version of the old and trusty "Mule" utility shuttle. Originally designed by the Starlight Drive Yards as a support ship for local miners or as transport between stations, Mule didn't offer any real combat capabilities. Cumbersome and with no armor, it was nevertheless affordable and reliable. However, growing concerns about pirates hiding in asteroid fields necessitated a new type of craft.

Scarab modifications completely removed the standard cargo bay. The freed internal space was instead filled with more powerful engines and generators. The leftover space was used as torpedo storage and crew quarters for turret operators. The biggest aspect left pointing to its industrial origins is the large docking port at the bottom.

Stronger thrusters also made the Scarab much more maneuverable. However, even with these changes, the Scarab is not a combat ship and any captain should take care to avoid direct confrontations. Multiple frontal torpedo launchers, good acceleration and small profile make it easy to keep the enemies at range using "hit and run" tactics.

X-111 "Scarab" is a basic starter ship with very little health. While 3 system slots offer limited flexibility, it doesn't require much materials or even crew to operate. Multiple launchers can store a number of torpedoes, dropped by pirates even in the starting area. 5 turret hardpoints make the Scarab perform well as a miner ship, true to its roots, or as a light escort.
