HMCS Saint John was built as a large Canadian cruiser completing in 1947. She was given 12 10 inch guns as main armament and 14 5 inch and 8 3 inch guns as secondaries. She was fitted with only lighter protection; having a 4 inch belt and 1.5 inch deck, being capable of reaching 32 knots. She was a signficant improvement over the older Canadian heavy cruisers of the Toronto and Montreal classes. She would be the only ship of her class, with several deficiencies pointed out in the design forcing her planned sister to be built as a seperate, improved class.

She would serve in the US-Canadian war of 1954-1957c and survive the war, having participated in numerous battles.
