[Historical Background] :
In the Balkans Campaign of 1941, the German High command decided to capture Crete after occupying Greece. Because of the strategic importance of the island for gaining control of the eastern Mediterranean and Aegean Sea, the German army decided to launch a military operation code-named "Operation Mercury". The initial strategic plan was as follows: use the advance paratroopers to first seize the three airfields on the island to facilitate the smooth landing of the main force on the island, and plan to send landing soldiers to carry out the landing and transport heavy weapons and equipment from the sea.
At about three o 'clock in the morning of May 20, the first German airborne troops were ready for deployment......

01-Be Caught Off Guard
Backed BY NAVY AND WARPLANES, REITEL'S COMMANDER TRANSPORT SUCCESSFULLY APPROACHED THE BATTLE ZONE. Just as the hatch opens and everyone prepares to jump, the hidden forest suddenly erupts in a deafening roar of light, and the flaming transport plane is about to break apart......

02-Daring Vanguard
Having succeeded in acquiring the heavy weapons, ReITel decided to leave the experienced 5th Battalion with some of the heavy weapons to defend the southern direction while the rest of the troops attacked the block as planned and quickly took control of the bridge. Little do they know, the threat lurks in the inner city......

03-Out On A Limb
After fierce street FIGHTING, the PARatroOPERS temporarily took control of the bridge, and headquarters backed up the last available troops and equipment for the incoming Commonwealth army. Reitel and his men knew that this was a life or death situation......

04-Vigorously And Speedily
Thanks to the bridge, more and more troops can be moved quickly. The 5th Mountain Division made a lightning advance to the vicinity of Malama airfield, but two heavily-armed uplands completely blocked their advance. With NOTHING else to DO, MAJOR Gunther BERG OF THE AIRBORNE DIVISION, FRESH FROM A DISASTROUS VICTORY, PROPOSED A BOLD strategy OF attack.
