Whereas Mallory apparently drew the long straw, Soren happened to be the less fortunate of the two close lovers. On the day the group of four encountered Lady Abjal Irem in the past, it ended with Soren meeting a gruesome end at the hand of one of Lady Abjal's feeders. These ugly little feeders devoured Soren's innards, skeleton and all. Leaving only the skin and the torn, tattered clothes he wore at the time. After fleeing from that period in time and returning to the present, Valentich was responsible for bringing Soren's remains who then went on to offer them to Ussem so that they could turn the remains into a proper vessel. Though this proved fruitful, Ussem ended up giving the body to their shadow, Ajrami. It's only because of Ajrami's actions that Soren had a body to return to upon being resurrected. There are parts of Soren's body where the rosin Ajrami used to "heal" it is visible. Most notable his left arm and leg.
