The one who successfully returned to his time alive but severely injured. Whereas Kurtis was mutated beyond recognition and turned towards servitude, whereas Mallory and Soren faced a gruesome end at the hand of their demonic assailant, Valentich returned without his sight, an arm with damaged nerves that will never be the same again, and a heart wrecked with insurmountable grief over the deaths of his close friends. Grief he believed he deserved for being the only one to survive the encounter, grief so strong it threw him down a seemingly endless spiral. What made matters worse for him at the time was Ussem's corrupting presence when they were being tormented by the trillions upon trillions of vengeful souls that were lost abruptly at the hands of the fractured Keystone Tree. Under this dreadful influence, Valentich became the worst part of himself who went on to do things to people and nations abroad that would make Lady Abjal Irem blush. All of which culminating in the events that lead to Islisuna's birth. Flash-forward to the present, Valentich is still atoning for all of those sinister deeds, deeds he knows full well he committed on his own. Ussem's corrupting presence at the time were only the hands that pushed, he walked.
