The visage you see here is the form Islisuna takes when they are not piloting their corporeal anchor, having taken on the features of a avian beast in an attempt for Islisuna to appeal to his mother's interests. Giselle happens to be a lover of birds, with a good amount of that love being shown more with the mythical variety of birds. Most notably the Anqa of Arabian myth, the Huma of Iranian myth, and the Zhenniao of Chinese myth who happen to be her most favorite. True to their intent, Islisuna's body carries on subtle characteristics from each of these three mythical birds. One of those characteristics they've taken on is their presence that exists independently from the two known sexes. Islisuna is an entity that can physically be neither, one or the other, or both at any given time. Paying homage to the phrase "to be able to give as they are able to take" by means of reproduction. Another one of those characteristics is their inability to exist linearly in any one realm/world. In simple terms, without their corporeal anchor, Islisuna would be unable to be in one place at a time. Stuck in an ever-encompassing state outside of Sæsn's and Ussem's influence.
