Lore:
The Saw Toothed Reef Lurker is a species of armoured, predatory fish from the Tr'allanga home world's sub-terrain oceans.

Saw Toothed Reef Lurkers can be found in most parts of the ocean caverns; and survive by hunting small; lightly armoured prey; using their saw like teeth to cut through their preys shells.

The spiked front teeth on the other hand exist just to hold prey and the many gaps in its jaw do two things; they allow the jaw to close faster and allow dust from the sawing to escape.

But the Saw Tooth is itself prey to larger animals; so to protect itself it has a shell on its main body to protect its vital organs; the ability to regrow its fins and tentacles if they get bitten off, as they are its main form of movement; has foul tasting blood with paralytic compounds and spikes on the tips of its tentacles that can inject these compounds to stop or deter attackers.

But this compound is quite mild and mainly attacks the muscles of the predators mouth; making it difficult to bite things for a short while; and as a result most predators will not bother attacking them; except a few who are immune or actively seek out the compounds.

Saw Tooths also reach sexual maturity at 5 years old, can live for 20 years and reach 12 foot long.

And regarding reproduction; the Saw Tooth does this in an interesting way.

When the spring comes, triggering the spawning season for this species; the male will find and impress a female by swimming in unique patterns and ways around her; if she likes his movements she will choose him; if not she will simply swim away.

But if the two do mate, using a cloaca on their underside; the female will find a safe space to lay her eggs, like a cave; and will guard them; the male bringing her food till the eggs hatch; which takes around 4 months.

Once the eggs hatch; the new born babies will follow the mother and father around until they reach 5 years old and are mature enough to live on their own.
