Before becoming a major star, Dave Bautista wrestled under a more demonic gimmick, Leviathan.

Leviathan debuted in OVW in 2000 after signing a development deal with the WWF. He joined the Disciples of Synn stable and went on a lengthy unbeaten streak before losing to WWF Superstar Kane with an assist from Stone Cold Steve Austin.

He captured the OVW Heavyweight Championship from Doug Basham and held the belt for a few months before dropping it to The Prototype (John Cena). Shortly after, Deacon Batista debuted on the main roster as Reverend D-Von's muscle.
