what about replacing the hit indicators with blood splatter, and then making the hit indicators take up the edges of the screen? that way you could tell where you get hit depending on where the blood splatter is

I have an idea that I don't know if it's possible or too complicated. It would be a health indicator where, depending on your health, the screen shatters as if it were wearing a glass mask. I'd appreciate knowing if it's possible.
