High Resolution Cubemaps & Shadows

Another map where I showcase the maximum extent of the Source Engine's static lighting system using GMod's 64bit compile tools. Features 256x256 resolution cubemaps and the highest resolution shadows possible without the compile tools throwing errors due to to many vertices.

Compiled for LDR & HDR and retains full functionality as long as you have Half-Life 2 purchased & installed on Steam, and mounted in Garry's Mod.

Map name is d2_coast_08_hrcs, and can be found in the "Half-Life 2" map section.

This map involves back-tracking. The default spawn point in this map left by the mappers at Valve is at the energy field control station, continuing back from there will take you to d2_coast_07_hrcs if you are subscribed to it. If you are coming into this map from d2_coast_07_hrcs to this map, you will be at the beginning of the map as expected, like in Half-Life 2.


Misc info:
  • Fog based distance culling has been disabled
  • Low definition trees have been replaced with their higher definition counterparts
  • This map is not from a decompile

guys how do i stop the spawning at the beginning of combines? i just dont want them

I figured it has something to do with the odd spawn in when loading the map fresh, and the kill trigger under the bridge,,, as it's basically like a killtrigger goes off right as the map opens up,,, Not sure why a very fresh install of everything and a fresh load at 07 will run through the transition without issues,,, but if I had played the campaign up to that point it will install kill me, regardless of if I fresh start at 07,,, or delete everything and go vanilla with a fresh start,,, It's like something carries over and infects the thing if I had played through up to that point...

Anyhow, given you kept the spawn in triggers the same, not expecting it to change... but I'll be damned if I actually know what the problem is in the first place lol.... Maybe just having the map local to gmod will keep that from doing whatever it's doing... cheers!

Does this fix the instakill spawn when transitioning from 07 to 08..? Darndest thing, and the only persistent issue I've had after months of trouble shooting^, I can strip all mods, nav data, maps data ect... go full vanilla and I will still insta die on the transition,,, unless I re-install the whole thing, then it's fine if I do that... then load fresh at 07... shoot I can re-enable all my mods and the only difference is gonna be that previously I had played through the campaign up to that point....

Just discovered this series, it’s honestly brilliant. Would you ever consider doing the default gm_construct or gm_flatgrass? Thanks again for your wonderful series of maps.
