Guelb-er-Richat

描述
The Eye of the Sahara is an unusually large and unusually symmetrical geologic dome worn down by erosion. For years it was thought to be an impact crater, but modern research suggests it is more likely to result from upheaval instead. Its multiple concentric rings of silicate and igneous rings combined with its massive size means it can be seen readily from space, much like the great spot of Jupiter.

Guelb-er-Richat, as it is known to locals, is a 16x16km map aimed at desert warfare. The map features flatened plateaus, flatlands, dune seas, ridgelines, and other diverse desert geography. The map has no roads, no buildings, no airfields, and no plants. This is so that you can place your own should you want to. There is room on the flatlands to lift and land a plane, and the valleys in the southwest make logical sense as road networks.

The map is 16x16km, with a cell size of 4m, and has 289,363 objects placed. The map is located at 21.1269° N, 11.4016° W. Framerate on my old laptop is 60fps out to a full 12km with no perceivable lag. At the moment I consider this map feature complete and have no plans to add anything to it further. That being said, if you do have an idea you would like implemented, asking never hurts and if I like the suggestion I will consider implementing it.

In terms of plants, again I have no plans to add any to the map, however I will release a parallel version with vegetation if that is something people really really want.

Please consider giving the map a thumbs up when you subscribe. It helps my mental health to see my hard work appreciated.

Does this map have a dynamic recon ops version? =)

I see. Good luck with finding it then, and again, thanks for the prompt reply

@nuttcase indeed, but the hard part is working out which element of the config, or the map itself, relates to those grid coords.

I know nothing about map making, so take with a grain of salt, but I think the issue would be resolved if that "1000" line were shifted off the map in one direction or the other, ideally shifted East, such that the entire map is west of that "1000" line. That way all coords on the map itself begin with 3 digits. Appreciate the quick response, and the work to fix it.

@Nuttcase and @Macbain, noted, but unsure how to fix that, I'll check with other modders and hopefully put out an update soon.

To reiterate what Nuttcase said, the coordinates in the north eastern corner swap over in a weird way. e.g. they go from. This shift definitely happens at the 000 line up north.
We had some issues with memory leaks as well but this might have been a mod issue.

My unit used this map for an OP today, and we came across an unusual issue with the GPS coordinate system. The fact that the map changes from 999 to 1000 in the middle of the map messes with users trying to switch between 6 and 8 digit coords as the 6 and 8 digit grids aren't aligned. We were using the DAGR from ACE, which is 8 digits, but the map/cursor is 6 digits. If you put a coordinate in that requires you to cross that line, you can't put in the leading "1" properly. If you put in 0100, the gps will take you to 0100, 10000 km away, not 10100. And there is no way to enter the leading 1 into the 8 digit coord DAGR to make it take you to the proper place on the map.

Copy that, I will let my mod team know. Thanks!
